Invicta Dynamos forward Nicky Lewis is set to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.
It was revealed on Tuesday that the lively skater had dislocated his shoulder during Sunday’s home tie against the Chelmsford Chieftains.
Nicky Lewis returned to the Dynamos midway through the 2010/11 campaign, following a brief stint in the EPL with Sheffield, and rediscovered his best form during the post season as the team reached the ENIHL Southern Playoff Semi-Finals.
Having re-signed again in the summer, the forward then made a positive start in 2011/12 with three goals and as many assists, alongside three man of the match awards, from just eleven outings. However, during Sunday’s league clash with the Chelmsford Chieftains, Lewis was felled in the opening period and had to be helped from the ice before later travelling to hospital for an assessment.
Since then, scans have revealed that Lewis has separated the acromioclavicular joint (AC joint) in his shoulder – an injury that generally takes between four to six weeks to recover – sidelining him until at least late November.
Speaking on the latest injury to hit the club, Head Coach Kevin Parrish bemoaned the team’s recent luck and indicated that a player of Nicky Lewis’ capability would undoubtedly be missed.
Parrish said, “They say it never rains but it pours and that has certainly been the case at the Dynamos in recent weeks. On Sunday we already had Michael Timms watching the game from his crutches and Anthony Lennon spectating with his arm in a sling and now, unfortunately, Nicky will be joining them.
“It’s a huge shame as he brings vast amounts of energy and a ‘never say die’ attitude to the ice but all we can do now is wish him a quick and full recovery and look forward to having him back”.
Parrish then looked for the positives of Sunday’s performance when he said, “Obviously we’re very disappointed to lose another player to a long term injury but I think it’s also important that we focus on the plusses from the weekend’s outing. The lads remaining really pulled together and, if they continue to do so, with a few choice additions, the results will soon start to go in our favour”.
Finally, the club can also reveal that, despite taking a knock and battling through the pain barrier against Chelmsford, defenceman Jack Tarczycki is match fit and will be available for selection for Saturday’s match-up against the Wightlink Raiders.
